My c1500 is a 1995 and the 4l60e was rebuilt in the not so distant past. AKA I want to use it with my LS.If you want an improvement, I suggest the 8100 Vortec. If you can find one with the Van/GMT400 3500HD brackets it is actually an easier swap than the LS. It will bolt to your current motor mounts and exhaust manifolds as well as your current belt driven accessories bolt right on.I think transplanting into a regular GMT400 (non-3500HD) you'd have a hard time shoehorning an Allison in there unless you did trans tunnel surgery or had a body lift. It is correct though that these 2 years of HD's did offer the 8.1, it was either that or you got the 6.5TD. Only 2 engine options those years, no more 7.4.

I would just get a LS style 4L60E at a minimum. Personally I would ditch the 60E and get a 4L80E though. You could probably trade off the LS1 for an iron 6.0L too, which would work better for the swap. The truck accessories, intake and exhaust manifolds are an easier swap into a truck.
